I have a few plants on my wish list that are going to be the most I’ve spent on a plant, and because they’re so important to me, I will for sure be paying extra to have them expedited and cold weather protective if necessary. They’re not super expensive but with expedited shipping and whatnot it may be closer to $75-100 to put things into perspective.
Can’t I just browse nurseries to find the best deal on the plants I want instead of paying internet prices and shipping? Yes, I totally could! It doesn’t appeal to me to go from one nursery to another nursery in trying to find a particular plant. I’m not stepping foot into dedicated plant stores because a goal for me is no impulse buys for 2022 – even though I could still impulse buy online, the chances for me to do so are much smaller. I almost bought a rhipsalis in February in order to get my order over $35 so I got a discount and free shipping, ahaha. But I didn’t buy it!
The most I’ve spent on a plant was $39 and that included basic shipping cost. I don’t see myself going over $150 (includes shipping and weather protection) for a plant in this current stage of life.
I don’t have a lot of hobbies but I don’t want to put all my fun money into plants – which that doesn’t always include the cost of pots, substrate, and whatnot!
I also want to spend money when I go on vacation so alas I will do my best to spend under $100 as much as possible. Like $50 would be fantastic but that’s not realistic when I’m factoring in expedited shipping and whatnot.
Plants aren’t worth dropping major coin for something that sits in a pot all day and night, but that’s my personal belief for myself – especially if I wasn’t in a spot financially to spend on plant hobby or other hobbies. I am in a relationship too so what I do doesn’t just affect me but also my husband.
I love shopping, but I know I have to be financially responsible on when and how much I can spend on the things that make me happy. Adulting isn’t always fun but then on the other hand adulting is so fun, ahaha.
